About
A Maltese stronghold since 1881, Charles Grech brings together distinguished wines, spirits and beverages from celebrated international producers. Our featured wine merchant for Chapter III, they created a wine journey to complement Chef Adam Demanuele’s menu.
Founded in March 1881, the House of Charles Grech began as a small tobacconist and bottle shop on Republic Street, Valletta. Its founder, returning to Malta after a career in Britain’s Royal Navy, built the business around carefully selected products and personal service, a tradition that has continued across generations.
Today, Charles Grech operates across importing, distribution and retail, with an offering spanning wines, spirits, beers, waters, mixers, fine cigars and gourmet products. Its portfolio connects Malta with producers whose names carry their own histories, regional identities and dedication to their craft.
Among the wine houses represented are Champagne Louis Roederer, Barons de Rothschild, Frescobaldi, Attems, Domaines Ott, Penfolds and Ramos Pinto. The wider portfolio includes The Macallan, Highland Park, Jack Daniel’s, Gin Mare and Herradura, alongside S.Pellegrino, Acqua Panna and Franklin & Sons.
For Chapter III | The One with Baron Munchausen, we featured and entrusted Charles Grech to create a thoughtfully paired wine experience for our members at St Elmo Breakwater. With pairings curated by Alberto Bafumi, the selections accompanied Chef Adam Demanuele’s five-course seafood menu.
The evening featured Champagne Barons de Rothschild, Domaines Ott, Attems, Frescobaldi and Château de Chamirey, with each selection chosen to complement the food and contribute its own character to the chapter.
All the wines tasted and paired throughout the evening are available from Charles Grech, allowing our members to revisit a favourite pairing and bring a little of the experience to their own table.
